How does it work

Step One:

Assessment:

The assessment will determine current reading levels and highlight any areas of struggle. It will help us decide whether the Foundations Course or Fluency & Comprehension Course is most appropriate for your child. Additionally, since the iStar Reading Club is associated with the Vision Clinics of Development & Learning, we screen for functional vision issues that may be making your child's reading uncomfortable or inefficient. Clinic services are available to further evaluate and treat functional vision issues if found. The assessment fee covers the assessment process.

Step Two:

Assignment:

You and your child are trained on how to get started with your program. We work with you to set up a plan of action and appropriate goals. We demonstrate the tools that we use to monitor and coach your program. The setup and supplies fee covers creating an appropriate educational plan and setting up all of the software for your child’s individual needs.

Step Three:

Home Practice:

Your child begins using the software at home; usually this involves 20-30 minutes per day, 5 days per week. The software sends us data through the internet so our Teacher-Coaches can monitor for "red-flags" and contact you if necessary for support. Once per week our Teacher-Coaches send you a progress report summarizing the time spent on the program and progress towards goals. The Teacher-Coach may assign supplemental activities or worksheets to help develop needed skills The monthly tuition fee covers the ongoing at-a-distance monitoring and support.

Step Four:

In-clinic Supportive Tutoring Sessions

Some children may need to come once or even twice per week, whereas others may only need to come to the clinic once per month. Tutoring sessions are aimed at supporting the reading course in which your child is enrolled. Supplemental activities and strategies may be taught to help your child overcome barriers. You may purchase tutoring sessions one by one or you may prepay for a group of tutoring sessions and receive a substantial discount.
